How Can Women Reduce Bacterial Vaginosis?

This is a vaginal infection, common in many women that happens when some normal bacteria overgrow which live in the vagina.  Women of any age can get this disorder. It is not a sexually transmitted infection, but sexually active women are more likely to get BV.

There are various treatments for this vaginosis.

Following is some of them:

  • Antibiotics for this BV:

If you are pregnant and you are infected with this condition then usually prefer antibiotics treatment. Oral antibiotics are the first-choice remedy for women with BV who are pregnant.

  • Yogurt

This is effective for this ailment. Some women with this condition apply a thicker coat and plain, live yogurt to the outside of the vagina daily. Some apply a small amount of plain yogurt on a tampon for internal use before bed. It helps treat or prevent this disorder.

  • Acetic Acid:

Treatment with these acid gels aims to keep the vaginal pH less than 4.5 to boost lactobacilli to grow and stop anaerobic bacteria from growing. Most episodes of this occur for no reason and it's hard to prevent.

The following are some thoughts to help lower the risk of this condition:

  • Avoid putting water into your vagina to clean it. It doesn’t need specific cleaning
  • Don’t add bath oils, scented soaps, or antiseptic shampoos to the bath water.
  • Use condoms and water-based lubricant during intercourse.
  • You should avoid bathing and take showers.

If this disorder Persist:

If you have persistent this condition and do not respond to the treatment and you are using contraceptive devices, then healthcare experts may suggest you remove the device until things settle down as some said that IUDs contribute to persistent BV.

If your condition is serious or worsens then immediately contact your healthcare expert. They will help you to resolve this condition.
